이 논문은 복수성을 근간으로 한 공동성이 무엇인지를 물음으로 제출하고, 장-뤽 낭시의 복수성과 세계에 대한 사유를 중심으로 이 물음을 살펴보았다. 이 물음을 탐구하기 위해 우리는 장-뤽 낭시에게서의 복수성의 의의를 살펴보았고, 특히 복수성을 논의하기 위해서는 필연적으로 이질성이 그 내포로서 담지되어야 한다는 점에 주목하였다. 이러한 분석은 어떤 초월적이고 선험적인 의미화 체계를 기반으로 한 보편성을 상대화시키고, 그 안에 내재한 특정한 공동성의 기능과 의미를 고찰할 수 있도록 도울 것이다. 더하여, 이 분석은 관계와 공존을 통해 구성되는 새로운 의미의 공동성을 모색하는 데 기여할 것이다. 아울러 본고는 낭시의 ‘세계’ 개념에 대하여 고찰하였으며, 이를 통해 모든 존재가 함께 존재하는 ‘하나의 세계’가 어떻게 복수적인 세계들의 공존의 장으로서 열려 있을 수 있는지를 살펴보았다. 낭시의 말에 따르면, 세계는 모든 존재가 함께 존재하는 하나의 세계이면서도 동시에 언제나 복수적 세계이다. 이러한 사유를 바탕으로 본고는 복수성을 기반으로 한 ‘공동성’이란, 모든 존재들이 함께 존재하는 하나의 세계 안에서, 관계 내에서의 복수적 세계를 지향하고 구성해 나가는 것임을 해명할 것이다. 또한, 복수성으로서의 공동적인 것이 우리가 거주하는 이 세계의 사회·정치·문화적 토대로 자리하는 특정 공동성을 어떻게 문제화할 수 있는지를 해명할 것이다.
This paper poses the question of what constitutes a commonality grounded in plurality and examines this inquiry through Jean-Luc Nancy’s philosophical reflections on plurality and the world. To pursue this question, the study explores the significance of plurality in Nancy’s thought, with particular emphasis on the notion that any engagement with plurality must necessarily entail heterogeneity as its intrinsic implication. Such an analysis serves to relativize universality grounded in transcendental or a priori structures of meaning, and in doing so, offers a framework for critically examining the functions and meanings of specific forms of commonality embedded within them. Furthermore, it contributes to the search for a new conception of commonality constituted through relationality and coexistence. The paper also investigates Nancy’s concept of the “world,” examining how the ‘one world’ in which all beings coexist can be understood as an open space for the coexistence of plural worlds. According to Nancy, the world is always both a singular world in which all beings are together and, at the same time, a plural world. Building on this insight, the paper argues that a commonality grounded in plurality entails the orientation toward and constitution of plural worlds—conditions of being-together in relational heterogeneity—within the singular world of coexistence. Finally, the paper examines how such plurality-based commonality can problematize specific existing forms of commonality that underlie the socio-political and cultural foundations of the world we inhabit.
