판단에 민감한 태도로서의 분노 – 분노와 도덕 교육의 역할 –

가려져 왔던 문제를 조명하게 만드는 실마리로서 분노는 도덕판단의 중요한 원천 중 하나이고, 지우고 억압해도 쉽게 사라지지 않는 강력한 감정이다. 이러한 반응적 감정으로서의 분노가 도덕 담론에서 가지는 역할을 재조명하며, ‘판단에 민감한 태도로서의 분노’와 ‘타협이 아닌 용서’가 무엇인지 명료히 하고, 그러한 감정과 이행 과정의 도덕적 가치를 주장하는 것이 이 연구의 목적이다. 판단에 민감한 태도로서의 분노가 가지는 가치를 인정하는 이론들을 기반으로, 우리 안의 분노를 우리의 도덕적 삶에서 적극적으로 활용하는 연습을 반복할 필요가 있다는 것이 이 논문이 주장하는 바이다. 누스바움은 분노가 우리를 오도하는 것을 우려하지만, 필자는 나와 내가 속한 사회를 성장하게 하는 책임의 수용과 용서는 도리어 분노를 통해서만 가능하다고 주장하려 한다.
필자는 2장에서 누스바움의 분노 비판을 살펴보고, 3장에서 분노와 그에 대한 최선의 방책으로서의 용서가 꼭 한 가지 방식으로만 전개되지는 않는다고 주장할 것이다. 4장에서는 분노가 우리의 도덕적 삶에서 필수적인 감정이라고 주장하는 다양한 이론들을 검토한 후, 마지막 5장에서는 그러한 분노를 민감하게 포착해 책임귀속의 대화를 나누도록 조력하는 도덕 교육이 필요하다고 주장할 것이다.
Anger, which serves as a clue to shed light on issues that have been hidden, is one of the most important sources of moral judgment and a powerful emotion that does not easily disappear even when erased or suppressed. The purpose of this study is to examine the role of anger as a reactive emotion from the perspective of forgiveness, to clarify what anger as a thoughtful attitude and uncompromising forgiveness mean, and to argue for the moral value of such emotions and the process of implementation.
Nussbaum worries that anger can mislead us, but I argue that true forgiveness—not mere forgetting or compromise, but rather forgiveness as a judgement-sensitive attitude that operates within the context and history of other moral discourses and enables the growth of both the individual and society—is only possible through anger.
In Chapter 2, I examine Nussbaum’s critique of anger, and in Chapter 3, I argue that neither anger nor forgiveness as its most appropriate response unfolds in a single, uniform manner. Chapter 4 reviews various arguments that regard anger as an indispensable emotion in our moral lives. Finally, in Chapter 5, I contend that moral education should cultivate the sensitivity to perceive such anger and support dialogical practices of responsibility attribution.
