조선 중기 역학사상사 연구 ― 화담 서경덕, 퇴계 이황, 율곡 이이의 역학사상이 후대에 미친 영향을 중심으로 ―
A study on the history of I-Xue(易學) thought in the mid-Joseon Dynasty – Focusing on the influence of Seo Gyeong-Deok, Yi Hwang, and Yi I’s I-Xue thought on later generations
본 논문은 조선중기 역학사상사에 대해 살펴본 글이다. 서경덕(徐敬德)의 해설은 『성리대전(性理大全)』 가운데 『황극경세서(皇極經世書)』를 잘 이해하는데 그치지 않고, ｢성음해(聲音解)｣⋅｢발전성음해미진처(跋前聲音解未盡處)｣는 조선후기에 『훈민정음(訓民正音)』을 이해하데 도움을 주었으며, ｢황극경세수해(皇極經世數解)｣의 원회운세론(元會運世論)은 조선후기 서양 천문학의 이해하는데 도움을 주었다.
이황(李滉)의 『계몽전의(啓蒙傳疑)』는 퇴계학파(退溪學派)에 영향을 주었다. 퇴계학파에서는 16세기부터 19세기에 이르기까지 주희(朱熹)와 채원정(蔡元定)의 『역학계몽(易學啟蒙)』과 이황의 『계몽전의』를 연구하는데 영향을 주었다.
이이(李珥)의 역학사상은 ｢천도책(天道策)｣과 ｢역수책(易數策)｣을 통해 살펴볼 수 있지만 과거시험의 답안인 책문(策文)이라는 단점이 있었다. 조선후기 정계(政界)와 떨어져 있던 일군의 기호학파(畿湖學派) 학자들이 『주역전의대전(周易傳義大全)』을 중심으로 미흡했거나 좀 더 설명이 필요한 부분을 첨부함으로써 새로운 세대들에게 새로운 시각을 가질 수 있게 해 주었다.
조선중기 학자인 서경덕, 이황, 이이는 조선 성리학이 후대에 많은 영향을 주었던 것처럼 그들의 역학사상도 후대에 많은 영향을 주었다. 그러므로 현재 연구되고 있는 조선후기 학자들의 역학사상도 이들 3명의 학자에게 어느 정도 영향을 받았음을 기억하여야 한다.
This paper examines the history of I-Xue(易學) thought in the mid-Joseon Dynasty. Seo Gyeong-Deok’s commentary not only helps us understand Huanggijingshishu(皇極經世書), but also helps us understand Hunmin- jeongeum (訓民正音) in the late Joseon period through “Sungumhae”(｢聲音解｣) and “Baljeonsungumhaimichincheo”(｢跋前聲音解未盡處｣) In addition, the Yuanhuiyunsjilun (元會運世論) of “Hwanggeukgyeongseuhae”(｢皇極經世數解｣) helped us understand Western astronomy in the late Joseon period.
Yi Hwang’s Gyeomongjeonui(啓蒙傳疑) influenced the Toegye School. From the 16th to the 19th century, the Toegye School had an influence on the interpretation of Zhu Xi’s Yixueqimeng(易學啟蒙)) and Yi Hwang’s Gyeomongjeonui.
Yi I’s I-Xue through “Cheondochaek(｢天道策｣)” and “Yisuchaek(｢易數策｣)”, but it had the shortcoming of being a policy text(策文) that was an answer sheet for the civil service examination. In the late Joseon Dynasty, a group of Giho School scholars added parts that were insufficient or needed more explanation to the Juyeokjeonuidaejeon(周易傳義大全), allowing new generations to have a new perspective.
Just as the Joseon Neo-Confucianism of the mid-Joseon Dynasty scholars Seo Gyeong-Deok, Yi Hwang, and Yi I had a great influence on the later generations, their I-Xue thought also had a great influence on the later generations. We should remember that the current research on the ideology of late Joseon scholars was also influenced to some extent by these three scholars.
