[예술비평문] 하이퍼객체의 사유로 읽는 〈초록 전율〉
[Art Criticism] Reading 〈Green Shivering〉 through the Lens of Hyperobjects
부산현대미술관에서 열린 2025년 다원예술 전시 <초록 전율>은 감각을 매개로 인류세가 처한 자연과 인간의 문제에 다가가는 미학적 경험을 제공한다. 설치, 영상, 퍼포먼스, 사운드 아트가 결합된 다원예술의 전시로서 <초록 전율>은 인간과 비인간, 자연과 문명의 경계를 넘어, 서로 느낌으로 함께 알게 되는 ‘생태적 알아차림’ 즉 에코그노시스의 경험으로 이끈다. 시공간에 광범위하게 분포된 사물들, 인류세, 기후온난화와 같은 객체들을 일컬어 하이퍼객체라고 명명하는 티모시 모턴의 사유를 통해 곽소진, 김익명, 이수진, 임고은, 하이너 괴벨스.의 작업에서 이러한 객체들이 인간-객체와 맺는 관계를 깊이 성찰해 볼 수 있다. 객체지향 이론에서 객체는 습관적 인과론의 시각에서 벗어날 때 진실하게 객체를 마주할 수 있다. 예술가들의 작품은 감각을 사용하여 환유의 수사학으로 자연-객체를 사유하게 한다. 전시는 농업로지스틱스의 배경에 있었거나 대자연으로 불리었던 자연을 예술가들의 작업을 통해 낯선 객체로서 만나게 하고 인간과 동등하게 지구라는 숲에 존재해 온, 우리와 연결된 존재라는 사실을 일깨워준다.
The 2025 performing arts at the Museum of Contemporary Art Busan offers an aesthetic experience that approaches the entangled crises of nature and humanity in the Anthropocene through the medium of sensory perception. As a hybrid exhibition combining installation, video, performance, and sound art, invites viewers into a mode of “ecognosis”—an ecological awareness—where humans and nonhumans, nature and civilization, come to know one another through the shared language of feeling beyond their conventional boundaries. Drawing on Timothy Morton’s concept of hyperobjects—things such as objects dispersed across vast scales of time and space, the Anthropocene, or global warming itself—the works of artists including Sojin Kwak, Unknown Kim, Sujin Jade Lee, Goeun Lim, and Heiner Goebbels critically reflect on how these entities enter into relation with human-object. From the perspective of object-oriented ontology, objects can only be encountered truthfully when released from the habitual grip of causal reasoning. The participating artists’ works activate the senses to engage with nature-as-object through the rhetorical strategy of metonymy, prompting new modes of thought and perception. Through this approach, the exhibition estranges nature—once reduced to the background of agricultural logistics or idealized as Great Nature—and reintroduces it as an autonomous, unfamiliar object. It reminds us that these entities have always coexisted with humans as equal presences within the great forest of the Earth, deeply entangled with and constitutive of our shared planetary existence.
