묵자의 겸애(兼愛) 논증에 있어서의 이기적 자애와 겸애의 모순 대당의 관계
The contradictory relationship between the concepts of egoistic self-love and universal love in Mozi’s argument about universal love
묵자의 겸애 논증은 난(亂)의 원인과 그 귀결에 대한 분석을 통하여 전개되고 있다. 따라서 본 논문의 목적은 난의 원인인 불상애를 이기적 자애의 양태로 해석함으로써, 불상애와 겸상애, 따라서 이기적 자애와 겸애 개념의 모순 대당의 관계를 이해하여 그의 겸애 논증의 타당성을 해명하는 것이다. 본론 1절에서는 불상애와 불애인 등을 비롯한 난의 원인에 대한 묵자의 분석과 논증이 이기적 자애 개념과 그것의 양태들로 진술되고 있다는 것과 이기적 자애를 따르는 사람들은 각자의 이익만을 욕망하며 서로를 구별짓는 개별화된 존재(개체)라는 것이 해명되며, 본론 2절에서는 이기적 자애와 겸애의 모순 대당의 관계가 이기적 자애에 따른 행위의 준칙과 그것의 모순성을 통해 해명될 것이다. 전자는 자신만을 사랑하는 것은 다른 사람을 해칠 수밖에 없다는 가능적 필연성의 논리적 사실을 의미하고, 후자는 이기적 자애로 말미암아야 하는 것이 자기 보존의 가능성이지만, 그럼에도 이기적 자애로 말미암는 것은 자기 보존의 불가능성이라는 논리적 모순성을 의미한다. 본론 1절과 2절의 해명 작업의 귀결은 이기적 자애의 부정으로부터 겸애의 요청 또는 긍정이 필연적이라는 최종적 해명이 될 것이다.
Mozi’s argument about universal love is developed through an analysis of the causes and consequences of chaos(亂). Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to explain the validity of his argument by interpreting not loving each other as the cause of chaos, as a mode of egoistic self-love, and through this, by understanding the contradictory relationship between the concepts of not loving each other and loving each other, therefore egoistic self-love and universal love.
In the first section of the main text, it will be explained that Mozi’s analysis and argument about the causes of chaos, such as not loving each other and not loving others, etc are stated in terms of the concept of self-love and its modes, and that those who follow egoistic self-love are individualized beings (entities) who desire only their own interests and distinguish one from another. In the second section of the main text, the contradictory relationship between egoistic self-love and universal love will be explained through maxime of actions according to egoistic self-love – this means the logical fact of possible necessity that only loves oneself harm others – and its contradiction – this means that the logical possibility of self-presertion must be done through egoistic self-love, but its impossibility will be done. The conclusion of the explanatory work in the first and second section of the main text will be the final clarification that the request or affirmation of universal love is inevitable from the denial of egoistic self-love.
