계시의 초월론적 가능성과 형이상학 – 칼 라너의 종교철학에서 형이상학의 정초 가능성에 관하여 –
The Transcendental Possibility of Revelation and Metaphysics – On the Possibility of Grounding Metaphysics in the Philosophy of Religion of Karl Rahner –
본 연구의 목적은 20세기 초 독일의 가톨릭 기초신학과 그리스도교 철학(종교철학)에서 심도 있게 논의된 ‘계시의 초월론적 가능성’에 대한 물음을 주제로 독일의 가톨릭 신학자 칼 라너(K. Rahner, 1904–1984)의 종교철학에서 시도된 형이상학의 정초 가능성을 비판적으로 평가하고 새로운 전망에서 해석해 보는 것이다. 계시의 초월론적 가능성에 대한 물음은 라너 종교철학에서핵심 주제이며, 신학과 철학의 새로운 접점을 제공한다. 이 물음에 답하기 위하여 라너는 형이상학의 정초 가능성을 새롭게 모색하였으며, 철학은 이 형이상학의 가능성에서 자신의 정당성을 확인할 수 있다. 그러므로 관건은 라너의 종교철학에서 –달리 표현하자면, 기초신학의 초월론적 기획에서– 형이상학은 정당하게 정초되었는지, 그리고 그러한 형이상학이 계시의 초월론적 가능성을 해명하고 오늘날 신학과 철학의 관계를 정당화하는데 여전히유효한지 묻는 것이다. 이를 위하여 우선 계시의 초월론적 가능성에 대한 물음의 의미와 배경을 묻고(2장), 형이상학의 위기에 직면한 20세기 초 독일가톨릭 사상가들 사이의 문제 상황을 확인한 후(3장), 라너가 자신의 종교철학에서 시도한 형이상학의 정초 내용을 분석한다(4 장). 이를 통하여 라너가 모색한 형이상학의 정초가 타당한지, 그리고 그의 형이상학이 계시의 초월론적 가능성을 성공적으로 해명하고 오늘날 신학과 철학의 관계를 정당화하는데 유효한지 확인한다(5장).
The purpose of this study is to critically evaluate and reinterpret, from a new perspective, the possibility of grounding metaphysics as attempted in the philosophy of religion of the German Catholic theologian Karl Rahner (1904–1984). The study takes as its point of departure the question of the transcendental possibility of revelation, which was intensively discussed in early twentieth–century German Catholic fundamental theology and Christian philosophy (philosophy of religion). This question constitutes a central theme in Rahner’s philosophy of religion and offers a new point of contact between theology and philosophy. In order to answer this question, Rahner sought to establish anew the possibility of grounding metaphysics, and philosophy can confirm its own legitimacy within this very possibility of metaphysics. The crucial issue, therefore, is whether metaphysics is legitimately grounded in Rahner’s philosophy of religion—more precisely, within the transcendental project of fundamental theology—and whether such a metaphysics is still capable of elucidating the transcendental possibility of revelation and justifying the relationship between theology and philosophy today.
