데리다의 윤리적 환대 개념에 내재된 정치적 의미 —데리다 환대와 무페의 정치적인 것의 논의를 중심으로—
The Political Implications of Derrida’s Ethical Hospitality: Focusing on Derrida’s Hospitality and Mouffe’s Notion of the Political
이 연구는 데리다의 환대 이론이 갖는 정치적인 의의를 밝히는 것을 목적으로 한다. 환대 개념은 데리다의 타자 이론의 결과물이면서 정치철학과 법철학의 근간이 되는 이론적 개념이다. 그러나 데리다의 환대 이론은 정치적 문제들을 다루기엔 한계가 있고 윤리적 논의 차원에서만 받아들일 수 있다는 평가를 받아왔다. 특히 무페는 정치적인 것의 논의를 데리다의 환대 이론으로 환원할 수 없으며 환대 이론은 목적론적 윤리의 다른 이름이라고 평가한다. 나는 무페의 데리다 평가에 동의하지 않고, 무페의 관점과 다르게 데리다의 정치이론에서 윤리적 환대 개념이 의미가 있음을 밝힐 것이다. 또 정치적인 것으로 나아가는 전제 조건으로 윤리적 환대의 개념이 수반되어야 함을 주장하려 한다. 나아가 데리다의 윤리적 환대의 목적은 사회적 신뢰를 떠받치는 최소한의 안전망으로 작동한다는 점을 밝히려 한다.
This study aims to elucidate the political significance of Derrida’s theory of hospitality. The concept of hospitality, as both an outcome of Derrida’s theory of the Other and a foundational notion for political and legal philosophy, serves as a critical theoretical framework. Nevertheless, Derrida’s account of hospitality has often been regarded as limited in addressing political issues and has been primarily received within the scope of ethical discourse. Notably, Mouffe contends that the discourse on the political cannot be reduced to Derrida’s theory of hospitality, further characterizing it as merely another name for teleology. I do not share Mouffe’s assessment. In contrast to her position, I contend that the ethical notion of hospitality constitutes an indispensable foundation of Derrida’s political thought. Moreover, I will argue that the telos of Derridean ethical hospitality operates as a minimal safeguard for the maintenance of social trust.
