홍익인간(弘益人間) 교육이념과 그 실현화 방안

‘홍익인간(弘益人間)’은 우리의 건국이념이자 교육이념이다. 우리 교육이념의 근간은 1946년 ‘조선교육심의회’가 정한 ‘홍익인간’이었는데, 이는 1949년 제정된 교육법 제1조에서 그대로 이어졌다. 1997년 교육법 폐기와 동시에 새로 제정된 교육기본법의 제2조 규정에 따라, 오늘날 한국교육의 토대가 되고 있다. 그러나 교육이념인 ‘홍익인간’이 유명무실화되고 사문화(死文化)된 채 성공지상주의와 같은 복합적 요인으로 그 가치를 제대로 실현하지 못하고 있는 것이 우리 교육의 현실이다. 더구나 세계화와 정보화가 오늘날 전 세계의 거대한 흐름으로 부각되면서 정치·사회·경제·문화 등 다방면에서 급격한 변화를 겪고 있는데, 이로 인한 대립과 갈등이 갈수록 더 커지고 있는 상황이다. 그러므로 남을 해롭게 하는 ‘홍해인간(弘害人間)’이 늘어나고 있는 우리의 교육을 바르게 살리고, 이러한 대립과 갈등을 해소하기 위한 방안으로 ‘인간 세상을 널리 이롭게 하라.’는 ‘홍익인간’의 교육이념 실현화가 무엇보다도 중요하다. 결국, ‘홍익인간 교육이념’의 실현화를 통해 그 대립과 갈등을 해소하여 인류공영에 크게 기여할 수 있을 것이다. 우리 교육자들은 다 함께 ‘홍익인간의 교육이념’ 실현화를 항상 염원하면서 교육다운 교육을 해야 한다. ‘홍익인간 교육이념’은 우리 교육을 바르게 살리고, 우리나라를 발전시키며, 인류공영에 기여할 수 있는 최고의 이념이므로 우리는 그 실현을 위해 지속적으로 노력해야 할 것이다.
“Hong-ik-in-gan (弘益人間)”, which means “greatly benefiting the human,” is Korean founding ideology and educational ideology. “Hong-ik-in-gan” was established by the Joseon Education Council (朝鮮敎育審議會) in 1946, which was later continued in Article 1 of the Education Act in 1949. Futher, in accordance with Article 2 of the Basic Education Act, which replaced the Education Act in 1997, it has become the foundation of Korean education today. However, the educational ideology of “Hong-ik-in-gan” has presently become irrelevant and an invalid culture, and its values have not been properly realized due to complex factors such as the spread of success-oriented thinking of students. Furthermore, as globalization and informatization have emerged as influential trends in the global village, we are experiencing rapid changes in the fields of politics, society, economy, and culture, and leading to aggravated conflicts and confrontations. Unfortunately, in a world where “Hong-hae-in-gan (弘害人間)” does more harm than good, in order to properly utilize our education and resolve conflicts and oppositions, the realization of the true essence of this ideology is important Through this, we will ba able to resolve all conflicts and oppositions and greatly contribute to the common prosperity of humanity. All of our educators should always aim to realize the “Hong-ik-in-gan” educational ideology and provide education worthy of being called thus. This is the best ideology that can properly utilize our education, develop Korea, and contribute to the common prosperity of humanity; therefore, we should continuously strive to realize it.
