가다머에 따르면 해석학적 경험의 본질은 방법으로 포착될 수 없는 진리에 다다르는 것이다. 그의 철학에서 진리문제는 핵심적이지만 그는 자신의 해석학적 진리개념을 충분히 해설하지 않았다. 본고는 하이데거의 진리개념과의 비교를 통해서 가다머의 해석학적 진리개념을 규명하는 데 기여하고자 한다. 이를 위해 맨 먼저 가다머가 하이데거의 현상학적 존재개념 및 진리개념을 수용하면서 전통적 진리대응설과 거리를 둠을 확인할 것이다. 다음으로 하이데거의 진리를 ‘비은폐성으로서의 진리사건’으로 분석하면서 가다머가 그것을 어떻게 수용하여 자신의 ‘지평융합’ 개념으로 발전시키는지를 밝힐 것이다. 마지막으로 가다머의 진리관이 하이데거와 어떤 차별점을 갖는지 밝힐 것이다. 여기서 두 철학자가 말하는 진리에서 공히 역사의 불연속성이 나타나지만 가다머에게 뚜렷한 이성 신뢰가 하이데거와 달리 대화의 무한한 가능성과 더불어 이해의 역사적 개방성으로 이어짐을 논증할 것이다.
According to Gadamer, the essence of hermeneutic experience is reaching a truth that cannot be captured by method. While the issue of truth is central to his philosophy, Gadamer did not fully elucidate his concept of hermeneutic truth. This paper aims to contribute to the clarification of Gadamer’s concept of hermeneutic truth by comparing it with Heidegger’s concept of truth. To this end, we will first examine how Gadamer, by adopting Heidegger’s phenomenological concepts of being and truth, distances himself from the traditional correspondence theory of truth. Next, we will analyze Heidegger’s concept of truth as an ‘event of unconcealment’ and explain how Gadamer incorporates this idea to develop his own concept of ‘fusion of horizons.’ Finally, we will elucidate the distinctions between Gadamer’s and Heidegger’s views on truth. While both philosophers highlight the discontinuity of history in their concepts of truth, it will be argued that Gadamer, unlike Heidegger, demonstrates a clear trust in reason, which leads to an infinite possibility of dialogue and the historical openness of understanding.
