인성교육에서 ‘개인의 도덕성’과 ‘시민성’의 화해 방안

이 연구의 목적은 대한민국의 인성교육에서 논의에서 드러나는 ‘개인의 도덕성’과 ‘시민성’ 간의 분리 현상을 극복하기 위한 화해 방안을 제시하는 것이다. 이 분리 현상은 ‘시민성’에 대한 강조를 통해 더욱 가속화된다. 이를 위해 첫째, 대한민국의 헌법 및 교육부의 목표에 제시된 인성교육의 개념 검토를 통해 인성교육에서 겨냥하는 ‘인성’ 개념이 어느 한 속성이 아닌 ‘개인의 도덕성’과 ‘시민성’을 포함하는 개념임을 드러낸다. 그리고 둘째, 인성을 구성하는 개인의 도덕성과 시민성의 관계에 대해 탐색한다. 이를 통해 ‘시민성의 조건으로서의 개인의 도덕성’과 ‘개인의 확장으로서의 시민성’이라는 유기적 관계 속에서 다루어져야 하는 것임을 피력하고자 한다. 마지막으로 셋째, 이 두 요소 간의 긴밀한 연결을 위해 개인적 노력으로서 ‘자아 리터러시’ 강화 방안을 모색한 후, 이것이 사회에서 건전하게 발현되기 위한 조건으로서 ‘관용과 무관용의 조화로운 적용’을 통해 건전한 인성교육으로의 방향성을 제시하고자 한다.
This study proposes a reconciliation plan to overcome the separation phenomenon between ‘Morality’ and ‘Citizenship’ that is revealed in discussions in character education in Korea. This phenomenon of separation is further accelerated through the emphasis on ‘Citizenship.’ To this end, first, through a review of the concept of character education presented in the Constitution of the Republic of Korea and the goals of the Ministry of Education, it was confirmed that the concept of ‘character’ aimed at in character education is not a single attribute but a concept that includes ‘Morality’ and ‘Citizenship’. Second, I explore the relationship between morality and citizenship, which constitute character. Through this, I would like to express that it must be dealt with in an organic relationship between ‘Morality as a Condition of Citizenship’ and ‘Citizenship as an extension of the Morality.’ Thirdly, after seeking ways to strengthen ‘the self-literacy’ as a personal effort to establish a close connection between these two elements, I seek to develop sound character through ‘Harmonious Application of Tolerance and Intolerance’ as a condition for healthy expression in society. This study would like to suggest a direction towards education.
